If I could give out the best sofa award, it would go to the Chesterfield sofa. Not only is it extremely versatile, but it has this understated class and sophistication to it. I did a little research and learned that it was commissioned by the 4th Earl of Chesterfield, Phillip Stanhope, in the 18th century. Yes, this sofa has been around for 300 years and is still turning heads and getting the job done.
It's effectively timeless...
As soon as I can get my hands on one, I will! (I can't stand my champagne taste and beer budget). I have my eye on something like this peacock colored chesterfield.
Rumor has it that the Earl wanted a couch that would allow a man to sit upright comfortably. A true chesterfield has the rolled arms and back of the same height with deep buttons and is made of leather. But you'll find little modifications here and there.
Is this a good investment piece or what? What sofas are you obsessing over?
I could see myself investing in a tasteful sofa of this caliber. I nice piece that would standout in my almost quiet living room. Thanks for the post, its giving me some ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe couch is comfortable to sit on, but once it was opened and turned into a bed and then closed back up twice, the seem that is between the 2 bed cushions started to split on one end and then 2 days later the same seem started to split on the other end. Now the cushions are being held together by black duct tape to prevent them from splitting completely apart. My grandson sleeps on it and loves that it opens to a bed and closes when he is playing. I guess for $55.00 you get what you pay for.
ReplyDeleteI bought this couch for my new college apartment and I love it. I was trying to furnish my home with nice new furnishings but without breaking the bank (Ikea style!), and this fit my budget and my needs perfectly. Its small size fits really well in my little living room (though if you have a full-size living room I would get something bigger) and I love sprawling out on the chaise end. I didn't need an ottoman but it works great at the end of the chaise for extra length or as an end table that makes the couch look a little bigger for show. The couch is a little firm but I don't mind it at all, and I love the zebra print pillows that came with it. It was also really easy to set up with Ikea-like instructions. All in all, I'd give it a 7/10 -just because it's like an Ikea couch in quality and it's a little small, but it is quite comfortable and so was the price. Great for a college student or low-budget family, but if you have the room and the money, I'd get something a bit bigger and better small sofa quality!
